Silky Chocolate Box Dessert


Layered dessert with chocolate cake, vanilla cream, and chocolate ganache. So creamy, rich, and yummy!


 Ingredients

Cake

  • 125g flour
  • 35g cocoa powder
  • 100g sugar
  • 1tsp baking powder
  • 1tsp coffee powder (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 110ml warm milk
  • 50ml oil
  • vanilla
  • pinch of salt
  • 110ml warm water 

Cream

  • 500ml milk
  • 35g corn starch
  • 30g sugar
  • vanilla
  • 30g butter
  • 100g heavy cream

Chocolate Ganache

  • 100g dark chocolate
  • 100g heavy cream

Syrup

  • 100g sugar
  • 100ml water


Instructions

Step 1: Chocolate Cake

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C (375 degrees F).
  2. In a large saucepan bring oil, warm milk, egg, sugar, and vanilla; mix thoroughly.
  3. Add flour, cocoa powder, coffee powder (elevate the taste of chocolate), baking powder, and a pinch of salt; mix briefly to combine the ingredients.
  4. At this point, add boiling water and mix well until the sugar dissolves completely and there are no visible lumps of flour. the batter will be quite liquid.
  5. Grease the pans with butter. Pour cake batter into prepared baking pans. Bake in preheated oven for 18 to 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove cake from oven and set aside to cool down
  6. Poke the cake with a wooden skewer (let the syrup pour over the baked cake to soak in the holes).

Step 2: Syrup

  1. Place sugar and water into a pot over medium heat.
  2. Stir to dissolve sugar and cook until mixture boils; boil for 1 minute.
  3. Cool before use. 

Step 3: Cream

  1. In a saucier combine milk, corn starch, sugar, and vanilla. Cook over medium heat.
  2. Whisking constantly until the cream begins to thicken, around 5 minutes. 
  3. Once it thickens, add the butter and continue to whisk until melted and thoroughly combined. Add the heavy cream, and continue to whisk, pausing every few minutes to check the bubbles for about a minute.
  4. Pour it directly on top of the baked chocolate cake.

Step 4: Chocolate ganache

  1. Place finely chopped dark chocolate and heavy cream into a saucepan.
  2. Microwave for 1 minute. Whisk together until completely combined and smooth.

Pour the chocolate ganache on top of the cream as a final step.

Sprinkle some cocoa powder (optional).
