Crusty French Bread
Homemade French Roll Bread is crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside.
Ingredients
Bread starter
- 35g flour
- 7g dry yeast
- 40 ml warm water
Bread Dough
- 380g flour
- 20 sugar
- 7g salt
- 20g butter
- 210ml warm water
Instructions
- Bring flour, yeast, and water into a bowl; mix thoroughly. Cover with plastic wrap and let it proof for 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
- After 30 minutes, add flour, sugar, salt, bread starter, and water.
- Knead for 10-25 minutes or until the dough has a smooth surface. Place the dough into a bowl; cover it and let it proof for 1 hour.
- Divide into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece up into a tight cylinder from the long edge, tucking the ends under; transfer into a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
- Cover it with a towel and let it proof for 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
- 10 minutes before baking, place a towel and hot water into a baking pan and place it at the bottom of the oven.
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C (392 degrees F).
- Make a long cut at the dough surface with a sharp knife.
- Spray the bread roll with water just before putting them in the oven.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Serve with butter for a delicious snack!
