Crusty French Bread



Homemade French Roll Bread is crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside.


Ingredients

Bread starter

  • 35g flour
  • 7g dry yeast
  • 40 ml warm water

Bread Dough

  • 380g flour
  • 20 sugar
  • 7g salt
  • 20g butter
  • 210ml warm water

Instructions

  1. Bring flour, yeast, and water into a bowl; mix thoroughly. Cover with plastic wrap and let it proof for 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
  2. After 30 minutes, add flour, sugar, salt, bread starter, and water.
  3. Knead for 10-25 minutes or until the dough has a smooth surface. Place the dough into a bowl; cover it and let it proof for 1 hour.
  4. Divide into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece up into a tight cylinder from the long edge, tucking the ends under; transfer into a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Repeat with the rest of the dough.
  5. Cover it with a towel and let it proof for 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
  6. 10 minutes before baking, place a towel and hot water into a baking pan and place it at the bottom of the oven.
  7. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees C (392 degrees F).
  8. Make a long cut at the dough surface with a sharp knife.
  9. Spray the bread roll with water just before putting them in the oven.
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Serve with butter for a delicious snack!
